Who we are

Pets in World is an independent website that publishes free online pet tools and educational information. It is available at petsinworld.online.

This policy covers the pages and tools on this website only. It does not cover any other website you may reach by following a link from here.

Pets in World is run as an independent online project rather than a registered company with public offices. If you have a question about this policy, or about information we may hold about you, the contact details in section 14 reach the person responsible for it.

Website visits

When you visit any website, including this one, the server that delivers the pages automatically receives certain technical information. This happens as a normal part of how the internet works and is not something we switch on or off.

That information typically includes:

• Your IP address
• The type of browser and device you are using
• The pages you requested and when
• The page or source that referred you, if any

This kind of data is used to keep the site running, to understand and fix errors, and to protect against abuse such as automated attacks. It is handled by our hosting provider.

Our hosting provider processes this information on our behalf, under its own privacy policy and its own standard log retention. We do not use these records to build profiles of individual visitors, and we do not attempt to connect them to anything you send us through the contact form.

Calculator inputs

Our tools, including the Pet Food Calculator, run entirely in your own browser.

When you enter your pet’s weight, age, activity level or food calorie information, those values stay on your device. They are used by code running in your browser to work out a result, and they are then displayed back to you. The calculator does not send them to our server, does not save them to a database, and does not attach them to you in any way.

Two things are worth being precise about, because they are easy to confuse:

• The calculator itself does not store your inputs. That is a property of how it is built, not a promise about the rest of the page.
• The page around the calculator is still an ordinary web page. Loading it produces the server records described in section 2, and any analytics or advertising services described in sections 6 and 7 operate on this page as they do on any other. Those services may record that the calculator page was visited, even though they do not receive the values you typed.

If we ever add a feature that saves your inputs, for example so you can return to a previous result, that would be a change to how this works and we would describe it here first.

Contact form submissions

The contact form is the one place on this site where you deliberately send us personal information. It asks for:

• Your name
• Your email address
• A subject category
• Your message

We use this only to read and respond to your enquiry. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not use your address for marketing.

When you submit the form, your message is delivered to our email inbox. Alongside your message we also record the time of submission and the IP address it came from, which is used to limit automated spam submissions.

Your message is not stored in this website’s database. It travels through the mail delivery service that carries it and then sits in our inbox, and both of those hold it under their own terms. If you would like a message you sent us deleted, ask and we will remove it from the inbox.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website can store in your browser. They are used for things like remembering a preference, keeping a session active, measuring how a site is used, or supporting advertising.

Cookies fall into broad groups:

• Strictly necessary — needed for the site to function, such as security or load balancing.
• Preference — remembering a choice you made.
• Analytics — understanding how the site is used in aggregate.
• Advertising — supporting the display or measurement of ads.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking them or deleting existing ones. Blocking all cookies may stop parts of some websites from working correctly.

We do not set cookies of our own in order to follow you around other websites. Some cookies may be present for strictly necessary purposes such as security or page caching, and others may be set by the services described in sections 6 to 8.

Rather than publish a fixed table that could quietly become inaccurate whenever a plugin or service changes, we would rather point you at the reliable source: your own browser. Every browser lets you view exactly which cookies a site has stored, what they are called and when they expire, and lets you delete them individually or block them entirely. That list is always current, which no written table can promise to be.

Analytics

Analytics tools help a website owner understand how many people visit, which pages they read and roughly where they come from. This is used to decide what to improve or write next.

Where an analytics service is in use on this site, it is used only to understand traffic in aggregate. We look at figures such as how many people read a page and which pages are most useful. We do not use analytics to identify you personally, and we do not combine analytics data with anything you send through the contact form.

Any analytics provider we use handles the data it collects under its own privacy policy, and falls into the third-party categories described in section 8. Most analytics collection can be limited through your browser settings, through a browser extension that blocks tracking scripts, or through any consent controls shown on this site.

Advertising

Websites that carry advertising usually work with an advertising partner. Those partners may use cookies or similar technologies to select which ads to show, to limit how often the same ad is repeated, and to measure whether ads were seen or clicked. Depending on the partner and your location, this may involve personalised advertising based on your browsing.

Where advertising is displayed on this site, it is supplied by a third-party advertising partner rather than sold by us directly. We do not pass your name, your email address or anything you type into a calculator to an advertising partner. What such a partner receives is the ordinary technical information any script on a page receives, as described in section 2.

You generally have some control over this. Most devices and browsers offer ad or tracking settings, advertising partners provide their own ad preference controls, and where the law requires consent before personalised advertising, you should be asked before it begins and be able to change your answer later.

Third-party services

Running a website normally involves other companies: a host to serve the pages, a mail service to deliver messages, and possibly services for analytics, advertising, security or embedded content such as video.

Each of those services has its own privacy policy, and information they receive is handled under their terms rather than ours. We do not control what they do with it.

This site also links to other websites. Following an external link takes you somewhere this policy does not apply, so it is worth reading the policy of any site you land on.

The categories of third party that may receive information in connection with this site are:

• Hosting — serves the pages and keeps the server records described in section 2.
• Mail delivery — carries contact form messages to our inbox.
• Security or content delivery — where used, sits in front of the site and sees incoming traffic.
• Analytics — where used, as described in section 6.
• Advertising — where used, as described in section 7.

We keep this list of categories short on purpose, because a website’s supporting services change over time and a list of named companies goes out of date quickly. If you want to know precisely which providers are in use at the moment you are reading this, ask us using the details in section 14 and we will tell you.

Data retention

We keep information only as long as there is a reason to.

• Calculator inputs are not retained at all, because they are never sent to us.
• Contact form messages are kept while the conversation is active and for a reasonable period afterwards, in case the same matter comes up again. You can ask us to delete yours sooner.
• Server logs are kept according to our hosting provider’s standard retention.
• Analytics and advertising data, where applicable, are retained according to the relevant provider’s policy.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights over personal information a website holds about you. These commonly include the right to:

• Access — ask what information is held about you.
• Correction — ask for inaccurate information to be fixed.
• Deletion — ask for your information to be removed.
• Objection or restriction — ask that certain uses stop.
• Portability — receive a copy in a usable format.
• Withdraw consent — where processing relies on consent, change your mind.
• Complain — raise the matter with a data protection authority in your country.

In practice, the only information we are likely to hold about you is a contact form message and the email address you sent it from. To exercise any of these rights, write to us using the details in section 14. We may need to confirm your identity before acting, so that we do not disclose someone else’s information to the wrong person.

Which of these rights apply to you, and the exact deadlines involved, depend on the law of the country you are in. We will respond to any request within a reasonable time, and within whatever period the applicable law requires.

One honest note: this policy is written in good faith and in plain language, but it is not legal advice, and we are not lawyers. If you believe your rights have not been respected, you are entitled to raise the matter with the data protection authority in your own country regardless of anything written here.

Children’s privacy

This website is intended for adults who look after pets. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, or under the higher minimum age set by the law of their country where one applies. Some countries in Europe set that threshold as high as 16.

If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, please tell us using the details in section 14 and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information this site handles. The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, access to the website administration is restricted, and software is kept updated.

It is also worth being straightforward about the limits. No website or method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and nobody can honestly guarantee otherwise. We can reduce risk; we cannot eliminate it.

One thing that genuinely helps: because the calculators run in your browser and never transmit what you type, there is no store of pet or user data on our side that could be exposed. The less we collect, the less there is to protect.

Policy updates

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add a new tool, change how the contact form works, or begin using a service that was not previously in place.

When we do, we will change the Last Updated date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be described rather than slipped in quietly. Continuing to use the site after an update means the revised policy applies to you, so it is worth checking the date if you have not visited for a while.
